Lorraine Hiscox
Dentistry Specialist
Dr. Lorraine Hiscox moved to Canada in 1981 from Bermuda with her husband, specifically to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Dr. Hiscox graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1987 and subsequently owned and operated a small animal general practice in Mississauga for over 20 years before starting on the path that has led her to specialize in dentistry.
Dr. Hiscox first obtained a Fellowship in Veterinary Dentistry in 2012 and then completed a residency in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery at the University of Montreal veterinary teaching hospital in 2014. Dr. Hiscox worked as a veterinary dentist in London, Ontario from 2014 – 2017. After losing her husband to cancer, Dr. Hiscox moved to Ottawa to take a position at the Ottawa Animal Emergency & Specialty Hospital as their Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist and Oral Surgeon. After six very fulfilling years in Ottawa, where she was privileged to work with an exemplary support team and dedicated specialists in multiple disciplines of veterinary medicine and surgery, she has returned to the GTA to be closer to her two sons and their families.
Dr. Hiscox has a tender spot for rescue organizations and in the past has supported both the Toronto and Oakville Humane Societies by donating her expertise. She received the Charlie Fund Award from the Oakville Humane Society and a plaque of recognition from the Toronto Humane Society. Throughout her lifetime, Dr. Hiscox has been privileged to own wonderful pets (both dogs and cats) and currently has three family dogs - Kraken (an adopted German Shepherd Cross and two little white dogs - Sparky and Maggie - (Bermuda transplants).
Oral disease and associated pain is rampant in our pet population and unfortunately veterinary dentistry receives little dedicated time in the educational programs of both general practitioners and veterinary technicians. So, Dr. Hiscox is dedicated to providing ongoing continuing education in veterinary dentistry with wetlabs and lectures in Ontario, multiple times throughout the year.
When not working, Dr. Hiscox enjoys improving her golf game, yoga, cooking and reading. After living in Canada for almost 40 years she is now extremely proud to call herself a new Canadian! Dr. Hiscox is delighted to be part of the Burlington Veterinary Emergency & Referral Hospital and looks forward to meeting you and your much-loved family pet.
